"The use of simple props to maximize the opening and awareness of the body provides support to the less flexible and extra extension to the more advanced student." B.K.S. Iyengar
I’ve shared below some of my favorite essentials & props –
Yoga Mats
Jade Yoga Mat – super grippy and great for a home or studio practice
Manduka EKO Lite
Yoga Blocks
Yoga Blocks need to be 4x6x9 or bigger. Skinny yoga blocks are not as stable.
You can pick any color or material you want. There are eco-friendly options, too.
Yoga Strap
Any yoga strap is fine, but if you are 6 feet tall or taller, you will need a strap that is 8 or 10 feet long.
Yoga Blanket
I purchased my washable yoga blanket on Amazon – totally option, and not a necessity for yoga classes.
I like to sit on a folded blanket when I’m meditating, practicing forward folds, opening up my back and shoulders, and sometimes to keep warm during Savasana! Mmmm.
Bolster
I have an Everyday Yoga bolster – and it does the job! I’ve heard that the Hugger Mugger ones are great, too, if you’re looking to splurge.
A bolster is a great prop to have if you’re looking to engage in a more restorative practice! I love to place it underneath my knees during Savasana.
